Cindy sherman

This is Darlene Cavil, 23 years old. She has gone through a lot  of hardships throughout her life. When she was thirteen her father raped her, constantly abused her physically and emotionally. Throughout her school years, it was hard for Darlene to concentrate and do well in school. She dropped out of high school. Darlene has a mental illness. Often times she is clinically depressed or other times very happy. Also Darlene gets really anxious. These symptoms all together, receive the name of bipolar disorder. It was hard for darlene to deal with this issue, but found some relieve when she started drinking and using drugs.  She moved out of her house and started living with her boyfriend. She finally came to realize that her only way of getting out her miserable life is suicide. Since Darlene just broke up with her boyfriend, she has nowhere to go, no one to ask for help, she feels worthless and successfully commits suicide.

ART 21

SEASON 1. Maya Lin-sculpturist-architect. The park and the skate rink.
SEASON 2. Kara Walker-painter-illusions. scenery and illusions.
SEASON 3. Cai Guo Qiuang-gun powder-drawings.
SEASON 4. Laurie Simmons-uses photography  with objects.

As I was watching the videos I noticed the many styles Artists have. The names mentioned above are some of my favorites, but there was one that caught my attention and it was the asian guy Cai Gua jiuan. It was interesting the way he works on his pieces, he first draw and then arrange gun powder around or in the drawing accordingly  and burns it up, so that when it burns gives it a different finish. He  also uses color gun powder.

Art INSTITUTE REFLECTION,

Of all the field trips that we have made over these last couple months the Art institute was my favorite.  It was interesting to see the actual works that  we have seen in the book, but there were a few pieces that caught my attention and it was the painting that pak  ho and I had to expose. It was The death of a poet, but  the interesting part about it is the way the artist created art based on a personal experience .The art institute was really something else, i loved all the collections. I don't know about you guys, but I really started to think that if it wasn't for this class, I wouldn't ever visit the places that we have visited over the last couple months.   :)

hob

The house of blues  tour was amazing, if you ask me what works amazed  me the most I will say that the violence wall by Roy Ferdinand. I thought that his work was pretty realistic and overwhelming, but I thought it was more a personal experience he probably went through. I kind of related to the actual Chicago violence scene happening in south side. I was overwhelmed because in most of his paintings there were innocent people, woman and children, as it often happens on this gang related shootings.

cultural center

I thought the mini trip to the cultural center was pretty cool. I liked a few of the art works, for example, some of the paintings that had angels and demons involved, but the whole exposition was very interesting.
